Hundreds of people showed up this weekend to say goodbye to the Ocean City. amusement park as it closed after 94 years in business. In August, Mayor Jay Gillian, the park's owner, announced he'd be terminating the multi-year lease in the weeks to come.
This was it.
"We weren’t going to miss the final day at Wonderland," one longtime pier-goer said. "So sad that this place won’t be around for future generations. Lots of great memories. Ocean City won’t be the same without it."
"Today was the final operating day for Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City, NJ," blueeyedcoasterchick wrote on Instagram.
"Used to visit all the time as a kid. My favorite ride was always the little monorail. We decided to make a quick stop back in 2017, and I was lucky enough to get to ride the monorail again. Little did I know that it would be the last time.
"We only rode that and the Haunted House during our quick visit. I do have full videos of both, which I will post at a later time. The log flume looked fun, unfortunately, didn't get to ride that. Nothing lasts forever, but this makes me so sad. Thankful for the memories. ✨️🎡🎠."
"Here’s to @gilliansocnj Wonderland Pier, illuminating lives with enchanting experiences since 1929, a shining beacon of treasured memories," the neighboring Charlie's Bar said. "Cheers 🍻 From your friends at Charlie’s."
